2008 Industrial Silicon Chain Forum

Location: Chengdu
Date: May.8-9,2008
Description:
Silicon exports reached 700kt in China in 2007. Export prices broke through $2,000/t in spite of 10% tariff imposed on silicon metal exports from Jan 1, 2008. Three spotlights are posted in 2008 silicon market.
◆ Domestic demand: Steady increment in derivative, indicating a new boom? Demand for ALSI alloy is brisk. Organic silicon and poly-silicon industries are thriving, regaling to a tune of 300kt consumption in 2007 and therefore brightening the outlook in domestic market. Will the year 2008 continue to be bullish?
◆ Overseas market: tariff adjustment, woe or weal? Is it in favor of cancelling anti-dumping and broadening overseas markets when 10% export tariff imposed on silicon metal weighs on the market but narrow price gap home and abroad from Jan 1, 2008?
◆ Macro-policy: more severe? Price rise for electricity is unavoidable in North China in line with escalating coal cost, weighing on the whole industry. Will the approaching opulent rainfall in the south extend the price gap? Following the adjustment of tax, NDRC has released 2008 acceptation standard, effective on 1 March, 2008, which raising the threshold into silicon industry. International crude oil prices have broke through $100, output of refinery coke in central China has decreased and anode prices stay at high levels. How to reduce production cost?
We are looking forward to your participation.
