4th CIS Raw Materials Markets Conference 2008 Preview
Jul 22,2008 PM05:06

Business Forum and Metal Expert are delighted to announce the 4th International Conference “CIS Raw Materials Markets 2008” taking place 6-7 October 2008 in Alushta (Ukraine).

The event presents a unique opportunity to meet high level professionals from the most of companies involved in steelmaking raw materials production and trade both in CIS and the world.

The first day of the conference will be dedicated to the raw materials for blast furnace production with the round table discussion after three sessions. At the second day interrogation will focused on the raw materials for steelmaking stage: pig iron, scrap and ferroalloys.

Evidently steelmaking raw materials prices continue to soar in 2008. For example two largest suppliers Vale (CVRD) and BHP Billiton are supposed to increase price for pellets and ore fines by 70-90 per cent in comparison with the beginning of the year.

The coking coal prices have risen to about $/t 300. Consequently the coke cost ran up to $/t 630 (FOB China). This year substantial growth is reported at the ferrous scrap market. This June scrap from Russia was offered at the level of $/t 670-675 (Black Sea ports) which two times more then in June 2007. And consumers in Turkey purchased scrap at $/t 730 C&F.

Price level at the ferroalloys market hit a record also. In 2008 Q2 quotations of ferrosilicon have reached the historical maximum of 2300 $/t (FOB China). But in June it has been quoted $/t 2500-3000 (FOB China).

Such hike in raw materials prices is unwelcome for steel producers. Especially for those that haven’t their own supply base. But increased input costs are more then matched by increased price for steel. In the middle of 2008 pig iron in Europe and North America was offered at $/t 1000 C&F. Billets prices (CIS production) have reached $/t 1170-1200, rebar quotations culminated at about $/t 1250 (FOB Black Sea).

Will low net cost remain the main advantage of CIS steel production? What should expect consumers of raw materials in near future?

This event provides us with important information on how the current trends influence the future of raw materials and ferrous metals.

Meet Business Forum and Metal Expert – key players in the ferrous metals investigation sector in CIS countries ensuring a high quality program!
